Nguyễn Kim Duy
biography
Nguyen Kim Duy (b. 1987) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, Nuremberg, Germany, in 2014.
Beginning his practice in painting, Kim Duy has long been drawn to the hidden layers beneath color and form. As a multidisciplinary artist, he questions the shifting conditions of language in art, with a recurring interest in abstraction and repetition. Text appears throughout his work not as a vehicle for meaning but as a visual element in its own right—its shapes, densities, and rhythms standing alongside color and line.
In his work, Duy dissects words at both the conceptual and systemic level, breaking them down to the raw state of arrangement—shifting language from something to be read into something to be seen. His practice extends across a wide range of objects and materials, from printers, paper cutters, and napkins to more traditional media such as pencil, paper, oil, and canvas.
His work has been featured in group exhibitions and open studios with Nha San Collective, MoT+++, and Heritage Space, among others.
