Đoàn Văn Tới
biography
Doan Van Toi was born in 1989 in Hai Phong. He graduated from Vietnam University of Fine Arts in 2017 and currently lives and works in Hanoi. From the very first years of his career, Doan Van Toi has participated in multiple group exhibitions at home and abroad, and is marked by his unique style of practicing art on silk. His paintings reflect the relationship between individuals and their surrounding life mainly by contemplating the nature of things. The juxtaposition of opposing elements and mixed media in his artworks (handmade, unique & automated, mass-produced) evokes intriguing paradoxical statements in practice with a Koan meditation.
Some outstanding exhibitions that he has taken part in: International Watercolor Exhibition (IWS) in Hanoi (2015), Art Festival in Pulau Ketam, Malaysia (2016), “Similar” Exhibition at the Museum Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts (2016), exhibition “NURTURE” within the framework of the 2019 Talented Young Artist Incubation Program of Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA).
In 2022, he had a solo exhibition “Gate Gate” at Indochine House Art Gallery, and also was a participant of “Homeland”, a contemporary art exhibition at Christie’s London Auction House.
